Wrightsville Beach Pier. Wrightsville’s famed Johnny Mercer Pier is no longer in existence. The wooden beach pier was destroyed in the aftermath of Hurricane Fran in 1996. In the place of the classic wooden pier that was destroyed, a new concrete one now stands. The new pier is a local gathering spot, and a great place to catch fish or just take in the spectacular views. A prime area for recreation, including skateboards and bikes, which can be seen everywhere along the pier.
